April is nearly gone and with it I hope the bad luck!! Robin has been in hospital for 2 weeks for surgery and is now home again and slowly getting himself back to normal but the surgeon says it will take a good 6 months to do so..............quite a long time really......but will just have to crack on with it!
The December rains did the finca a power of good and the aloes have flowered beautifully this year:it helped also that the temperatures rose dramatically so the combination of heat and damp soil worked very well. Once we reached the end of the first week of April the temperatures dropped equally dramatically and went from 29 to 15 !! Strong winds also arrived with the lower temperatures which soon knocked the old blossom from the bottlebrush trees leaving great mounds of rusty red everywhere. The water situation seems to be much the same as last year, with everyone being given a monthly quota instead of an annual one. So far we've had 90 cubic metres a month but it could go down at any time in the future. The olive trees are full of blossom this year so may get a good crop....who knows.....doesn't pay to count ones chickens!! We had a small swarm of bees settle in an olive tree last week, they were gone next day. There have been a lot of swarms this year from what I see online in various forums. The surrounding countryside has also been stunning this spring due to the rains and the colour and amount of wild flowers have been wonderful to see. Charlie Chihuahua and Finto the German Shepherd have an uneasy truce since Charlie's mother went. Charlie has nothing to protect now so his aggression level has decreased greatly! Like us, Finto has arthritis but, unlike us, he has a pill once a month to control his pain and which turns him into a happy chappie who has to rush everywhere regardless of what pace his human is capable of!
